About me!

Me? I am nearly 70, a Professor of Public Health and Community Medicine and Director of the Menzies Centre for Health Policy at Sydney University.  I have worked as a respiratory physician, a medical epidemiologist, an innovator in medical education, a Dean of Medicine and a health policy academic.  I have spent my career working for a better health system through medical care, education of doctors, and political change, emphasising equity and the principles of prevention and management of serious chronic diseases.

I have written poetry for my own interest and pleasure since I was at school and have published poems in newspapers and in the Medical Journal of Australia.  Many of my poems are at the interface of medicine, medical care and experience and human feelings. I have not yet published a collection of his poems.

I grew up in Sydney in a family with a strong religious tradition. I have moved towards a more humanistic personal philosophy. I have three grown sons and three grandchildren and have lived in London, New York, Boston, Ontario Canada, Newcastle NSW, Highlands of PNG, and in Sydney (mostly!).
